5 must see beaches in Ios, Greece

It’s no secret that Ios is my favorite island in Greece, the one place where I truly feel at home. I’ve been there 5 times and, each time, it gets harder and harder to leave: everything about this little gem makes me want to stay – the views, the food, the people.

Many think that Ios is all about partying and staying up all night (which you can do, if that’s what you are looking for), but this island has a lot more to offer than just clubs and cheap shots: the beaches are just incredible and, if you wake up half way early (and by that I mean around 10 am) you will have them pretty much all to yourself for hours before the party crowd wakes up.

Here are the 5 beaches you MUST SEE on the island:

About 15 minutes by car or scooter from the Chora, Agia Theodoti is usually pretty deserted, so if you like seclusion this is the place for you. It does, however, have chairs and umbrellas for rent, as well as two restaurants nearby to grab a bite to eat.

A vacation in Ios it is said not to be complete without a day trip to beautiful Managanari, on the southern tip of the island. Reachable by car or scooter in about 45 minutes, this place is heaven on earth, as it is made of 4 consecutive little bays. There is three traditional tavernas here, Christo’s being my personal favorite. Managnari can also be reached by public bus both from Mylopotas and from the port, in case you don’t have your own vehicle.

The most famous beach in Ios, Mylopotas is a long stretch of golden sand, equipped with comfy chairs and umbrella and a vast array of restaurants to choose from. Perfect for relaxing, it also offers several watersport options for those who want to be active. When you are done sunbathing, stop by famed beach club “Far Out” where you can dance and drink by the pool well after the sun goes down.

Koumbara is only 5 minutes driving from the port, and it’s one of my favorite spots on the island. The water here is always fairly calm and the whole place has a nice relaxing vibe, chairs, and umbrellas. Added bonus: the Koumbara restaurant is amazing, especially if you are looking for fresh fish (which isn’t super easy to find on the island!)

Koumbara Beach Ios Greece

So technically this place is in Koumbara, but this brand new beach and pool club deserve a mention on its own. The infinity pool is quite amazing, the view is incredible and the lounge music just right if you are looking for an upscale place to relax!
